UK Family Mediation Service North London
Separation and divorce can be emotionally draining, but family mediation offers a constructive and less adversarial alternative to going through the Family Court. Based in the UK and accessible online across London and beyond,
UK Family Mediation Service helps you resolve matters concerning children, property and finances in a supportive, private environment tailored to your situation. Call 0330 010 1571.
Family mediation is highly recommended and typically a legal requirement to be considered (via a MIAM) before applying to court for several important reasons:
Lower Stress and Conflict
Mediation provides a confidential, neutral setting in which to explore solutions together. It avoids the formalities and tension of court proceedings and allows for a more considerate approach.
You Stay in Control
Instead of a judge making decisions for you, our mediators help you and your ex-partner craft agreements that suit your family’s unique needs and future. This makes the outcome more practical and sustainable.
Cost-Effective
Mediation is usually far more affordable than hiring solicitors for court proceedings. If one or both of you qualify for support (e.g., Legal Aid), the cost can be significantly reduced.
Flexible and Accessible
We offer both in-person and online mediation (via Zoom/Teams) so you can fit sessions around your schedule. This flexibility is particularly beneficial if you live in or around North London and prefer not to travel.
We believe cost should not be a barrier to resolving your family issues. At UK Family Mediation Service there are two main routes to financial assistance:
If you’re on a low income or receive certain benefits, you may be eligible for Legal Aid, which can cover the full cost of mediation.
Legal Aid can cover your MIAM and joint mediation sessions.
Eligibility is assessed by your mediator who will ask for proof of income, benefits or capital.
We’re registered under the voucher scheme, which offers up to £500 towards your mediation costs in disputes involving children (and sometimes related finances).
This voucher is not means-tested, so many families qualify.
Your mediator will handle the application process on your behalf.
You can still access this voucher even if you’re eligible for Legal Aid, giving you extra financial support.
The first step with UK Family Mediation Service is the Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM):
This is a private meeting with one of our accredited mediators.
We’ll explain how mediation works, assess your situation, and check it’s safe and suitable.
You’ll normally need to attend a MIAM before applying for a Child Arrangements Order or Financial Order via court. If mediation isn’t suitable or the other party won’t engage, we can sign the appropriate court form on your behalf
Our mediators are accredited by the Family Mediation Council and hold Legal Aid Agency contracts.
We specialise in family mediation across England & Wales, including London.
Our process emphasises conversation over confrontation and resolution over retaliation.
Evening, weekend and urgent MIAM slots available — ideal for busy professionals in North London.
